We also drive up to Wat Phra Thad Doi Suthep, the most sacred temple in northern Thailand. The guide will recommend a restaurant for dinner (not included).

Day 3: Time to start cycling, as we leave the city walls and follow a scenic route southwards beside the Ping River. We take lunch at the ancient town of Lamphun and visit the 1000 year-old Lanna temple. We continue our ride to Lampang and our hotel. Ride distance 50 km (31 miles) with approx 200 metres of ascent and descent.

Day 4: A short transfer takes us into the hills of Maerang, where we ride on small country roads over quaint bridges to colourful village markets. Day 6: A easy day on the bikes, as we enjoy a leisurely ride around Sukothai. The Sri Satchanali Historical Park is UNESCO listed, with 193 ruins surrounded by moats and gateways. There is plenty of time to relax and enjoy the town of Sukhothai. Ride distance 25 km (16 miles).

Day 7: Our longest day in the saddle, as we head to the 'Diamond Wall City' of Khampeng Phet, a military fortress built to defend Sukhothai from invading armies. We ride on pleasant country roads with plenty of local activity to keep our attention. Overnight Khampeng Phet. Ride distance 89 km (56 miles) with approx 370 metres of ascent and descent.
