This excellent, and fully guided, Corsican walking holiday showcases Corsica's rich natural treasures; from the mist-veiled mountainous terrain beneath the peak of Paglia Orba (2525m), down to the stunning natural stone towers and cool blue Mediterranean waters of the Gulf of Porto. We explore this rarely visited area from four unique and beautiful village bases, walking some of the best sections of Corsica's famous Mare a Mare (sea to sea) walking route. Our first two nights accommodation are at the beautiful seasonal ski station of Castel di Vergio and from here we walk in the rugged Golu Valley, following a straightforward section of the world famous GR20 route. Heading west, we then hike across the Col di Vergio to the famously picturesque village of Evisa and spend two nights there, with a day walk through the mediterranean maquis to the atmospheric abandoned hamlet of Tassu. We continue, hiking an age-old path that takes us down to the vibrant marina at Porto, with its rocky beach and photogenic pink granite coastal outcrops. We end our walking week exploring the coastal paths and herb-scented trails around the delightful village of Piana. Sea eagles, cormorants and gulls frequent the cliffs and the translucent water is home to rich marine life. With a coast line decorated with offshore islets, secluded coves and pink granite pillars emerging out of the cobalt blue waters, it is not hard to see why the area has been awarded 'World Beauty' status by UNESCO. We end our holiday on a high with an optional walk to the top of Capo d'Orto, the second highest summit of the Calenche de Piana. From the top we have a fantastic view out across the intriguing geological rock formations to the gulf beyond. This holiday is a real opportunity to explore a beautiful and seldom visited part of this Mediterranean gem.
Is this holiday for you?
This is a relaxing walking holiday, very different to our 2-week GR20 Corsica trekking holiday. Starting out in the mountains and making our way gradually down to the sea, this trip offers walks of only moderate length and difficulty. On average, we walk for just 4 or 5 hours each day on good trails and there are no really big climbs. On top of this, several of the walks are optional and you can choose to do them - or not. Adding to the relaxation factor, is our choice of comfortable hotels and guesthouses throughout.
