Central Pyrenees Snowshoe Week
France, Snowshoeing, 8 days - from $1,295 (land only)

I was new to snowshoeing and to the region, so got a lot out of the holiday, despite the weather! But better too much snow than too little. Our leader was a fit, capable and very experienced mountain leader, with the sensitivity to adapt the demands to a fairly elderly group. His knowledge of the region is excellent. Every effort was made to find interesting activities for us daily, under very difficult conditions of too much snow.
I thought we were going to be more in a ski resort, and in a more standard "ski" chalet. We were buried in the country and the chalet environment was shaped by our leader's own interests and personality. A good holiday. The chalet is isolated in the country, which was very relaxing: reading books and chatting round the fire in the evenings, which suited me fine. We got out daily and I'm assured that the snow conditions made the snowshoeing particularly difficult - and hard work. I certainly hope to snowshoe again! And could re-visit the same region again very happily.
