Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Whitehorse. KE Land Only package services begin with a transfer from the airport to our overnight accommodation. Overnight lodge in Whitehorse.

Day 2: This morning we have time to sort our gear and get to know the group. We depart after lunch to Skagway, crossing the border into the USA, and onto Dyea the start point of our trek. This 2.5hrs drive is considered one of the most spectacular in the region. Our first trek is around 3 hrs to the campsite at Finnegan's Point. We walk alongside the Taiya River, a salmon river. Overnight camping.

Day 3: A long day of 7-8 hrs walk with all our equipment as we ascend to Sheep Camp just below the Chilkoot Pass. We follow the river, crossing many streams with great views of the glacier. We cross the hanging bridge over the river and can see evidence of the gold rush. We think of the thousands who walked the trail to make their fortune and follow their dreams in the distant lands. Overnight camping.

Day 4: Our longest and most challenge day - but one of majestic remote beauty. We start with a gradual climb where the vegetation becomes more alpine and possibly a few late snow patches. It's then up the famous 'Golden Stairs' to the top of the Chilkoot Pass (1067m) and the Canadian border. A short distance further is our campsite. Overnight camping.

Day 5: A beautiful day today with an easier section of walking through rich landscapes. We pass Long Lake and Deep Lake, and descend back into the trees and to our camp at Lindemann Lake. Overnight camping.

Day 6: Another great day with plenty of opportunity for photos and being mesmerised by the beautiful views. We camp at the charming Lake Bennett. This is the end of our trek and we take some time to relax by the campfire. Overnight camping.

Day 7: Our journey back to Whitehorse is on the 'White Pass' steam train to Carcross and then a bus to Whitehorse. Back in town we have time to do some shopping and relax. Overnight lodge Whitehorse.

Day 8: Free day in Whitehorse. We can use this day to purchase any last minute items and relax, but also we prepare our equipment for our forthcoming canoeing adventure. Overnight lodge Whitehorse.

Day 9: The second section of our exciting adventure, canoeing the Yukon River, begins today. We start on Lake Laberge where we paddle for 2 days before another 4 days on the river, a length of 320km in total. Known for it's crystal clear waters Lake Laberge is sparkling and the camps are great. We can swim, fish, walk or just relax and photograph the wonders of this wilderness. Wild camp.

Day 10: Quietly paddling along the lake we keep close to the shore line and beaches. We may see black bears looking for berries and raptors nesting in the trees. If the wind allows we will build a sail and float down the lake, increasing speed and reducing effort! We find another camping spot on a beach. Wild camp.

Day 11: Today we pass by the abandoned villages of Hootalinqua and Little Salmon. At our camp sight the guide will show us the basics of fly fishing, as it's a great spot for catching Arctic Grayling. We can also enjoy a sunset walk this evening. This is a beautiful place. Wild camp.

Day 12: The river branches into multiply subsidiaries at this point, there are many small wooden islands and the current is calmer as we continue. The river Teslin gently flows into the waters of the Yukon. We may even spot a grizzly bear looking for its salmon dinner. Wild camp.

Day 13: The river becomes more wild today as we paddle. The wildlife becomes more prolific as we progress further away from civilisation. Moose are numerous in these forests and bald eagles nest along the river banks. We may see beavers busy gathering stores for winter. We camp on one of the islands on the river. Wild camp.

Day 14: We break camp and pack up our canoes for the final time and by mid-morning we are in the village of Carmacks. From here our transfer takes us back to Whitehorse (approx 2 hrs) were we enjoy a well deserved shower and glass of wine! Overnight lodge Whitehorse.

Day 15: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast at the hotel. Airport transfers are not included.
