Increasingly accessible, the desert state of Oman is a real up-and-coming adventure travel destination. With 4 days of camel trekking and a night on the open deck of a traditional dhow, this exciting new holiday provides a great introduction to this most welcoming of countries. After a tour of Muscat, with its impressive Sultan's Palace and bustling Muttrah Souk, we drive south to Wadi Shab, where we can swim through emerald pools into a hidden cave. Then, it's on to meet our Bedouin hosts in the Wahiba Sands. Hiking and riding across this magical landscape, we will be involved in the work of handling our individual camels. We will also experience the tranquility of our desert camps and enjoy the particular beauty of sunset and sunrise amongst the dunes. Returning to Muscat, our cruise into the Banda al Khayran fjords includes the chance to snorkel and swim in the warm waters of the Gulf. A sun, sand and sea spectacular!
Is this holiday for you?
This holiday involves a short hike on Day 2 and then 3 days when we will be walking for around 6 hours a day, over a variety of terrain from gravel plains to soft desert sand. All our camping and personal equipment is carried by camels so it is only necessary to carry a small daypack with daily essentials such as water bottle and camera. Winter daytime temperatures in the desert are not too hot and walking at this time of year should be quite comfortable. We have graded this holiday as EASY trekking and it should be within the capabilities of any reasonably fit person.
