Amazing trekking and climbing adventure holiday in the Himalayas of Nepal. Close to the border with Tibet and providing a challenging and little-used trekking approach route to the Khumbu region from the west, the Rolwaling is one of finest high mountain valleys in the whole of the Nepal Himalayas. Trekking through the pleasant terraced farmland and across the high forested ridges of the Sun Kosi and Bhote Kosi valleys, we reach the isolated Sherpa village of Beding beneath our first climbing objective, Ramdung (5925m./19434ft). Climbing this excellent peak from a spectacularly-located high camp provides superb views northwards to the formidable Himalayan peaks of Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar. Continuing our trekking over the Tesi Lapcha (5750m./18860ft), we camp just beyond this high and impressive pass, in preparation for our next climbing objective, the ascent of Parchemo (6187m./20264ft). Views from this prominent summit towards Tibet and the Khumbu peaks, including Everest, are truly exceptional. An easy trekking route out to Namche Bazaar and the airstrip at Lukla brings this outstanding climbing holiday in the Himalayas of Nepal to a close.
Trip Guide
This trip offers just about every kind of trekking you can expect to find in Nepal. There are good paths most of the way from Barabise to Beding, with a great variety of scenery en route. The first few days we find ourselves tracing a way through paddy fields and villages, over passes and following riverbanks. From Simigaon we follow narrow tracks through forest and jungle to reach Beding. Above Beding we follow tracks made by the yak herders and their animals as they move between the village and the high summer pastures. Even here, the underfoot conditions are excellent. Between basecamp and the high camp, some of the climbing is on snow, as is the ascent of Ramdung. Following the ascent of Ramdung, the challenging, three-day crossing of the Tesi Lapcha (including the one-day ascent of Parchemo) involves some very strenuous walking over rough glacial moraine, as well as scrambling over rocks and sections of low-angled snow and ice. The guides will fix ropes on these sections to help the porters and the clients. With the exception of the optional Yalung Peak above Ramdung base camp, no technically demanding climbing is involved, and we have applied our EASY grade to the technical standard required to climb these peaks. The ascents of Ramdung and Pachermo, and also the final climb to the pass are true mountaineering challenges due to the altitude and remote location. The good paths begin once again about four hours beyond the Tesi Lapcha.
