Climbers on Lhakpa Ri - World\'s Highest Trek, TibetTibetan high adventure at 7000m opposite Mount Everest. For many who have climbed Himalayan or Andean 5000 (16400ft) and 6000 metre (19680ft) peaks, the next obvious challenge is to reach 7000 metres (22960ft). One of the best places to achieve this is in Tibet, among a group of peaks which lie directly opposite Everest's north-east ridge. Taking care over our acclimatisation, we spend several days in Lhasa and then make a gradual ascent from Everest Basecamp in the Rongbuk Valley to Camp III (Advanced Basecamp) at 6400 metres (20992ft). Here, we are following in the footsteps of Bill Tilman, who reached this spot during the 1936 Everest Reconnaissance Expedition. From the nearby Raphu La (6500m./21320ft), we gain spectacular views of Makalu and the Kangshung Face of Everest, before setting off on the strenuous trek across easy-angled snow slopes to our high point at 7045 metres (23108ft) on Lhakpa Ri. Our reward is some of the finest Himalayan scenery imaginable, including Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Lhotse and the dominating Everest.

Trip Guide

No doubt about it, this is a tough trip. The most difficult aspect of the trip is definitely the altitude, which will make this a very strenuous endeavour. While an ascent of Lhakpa Ri is technically easy requiring no special techniques or previous climbing experience, it is physically very demanding. To book this holiday you must have previous, successful trekking experience up to at least 5500 metres/18000 feet and you must be familiar with walking wearing crampons. All members will need to equip themselves with adequate warm clothing, appropriate climbing equipment and a thirst for adventure. Ski poles provide the best possible assistance over rocky sections and in soft snow conditions. A single walking axe is all that is required if conditions are firmer. During this trip, the group will be supported by two experienced KE guides, as well as Sherpa guides and a full Sherpa support and cook crew. We will also have pack animals (yaks) to assist with load carrying. On average, we will be walking between 4 to 6 hours each day.
