An amazing adventure holiday walking and touring to explore both the North Island and South Island of New Zealand. Starting out from Christchurch, we travel to Queenstown, the 'adventure capital' of New Zealand and the breath-taking Fiordland. Here, we will be trekking sections of the Kepler and Routeburn trails and also experience the magic of an overnight cruise-boat ride on Milford Sound. Then, heading north up the West Coast, we experience a real diversity of scenery, walking beneath Mount Aspiring. Here we get close to the spectacular Fox and Franz Josef glaciers and then enjoy some coastal walking to the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki. We conclude our time touring and trekking on the South Island of New Zealand with 2 days walking on the delightful Queen Charlotte Track. We then cross the Cook Strait to Wellington. From here, our tour continues to volcanic Rotorua, where we tackle the challenging walking to be found on the Tongariro Crossing, rated as the best 1-day trekking route in New Zealand. With a selection of excellent day-walking excursions, as well as time for sightseeing in the main cities, this extravagant walking and touring adventure holiday offers a brilliant insight into New Zealand, the 'land of the long white cloud'.Putting together this New Zealand walking and touring holiday trip, we have picked out many of the highlights of this dramatic country. We will use a comfortable minibus throughout our tour and even on those days which involve travelling from one area to another, we try to incorporate some decent walking to allow us to stretch our legs. On North Island we also make a number of short walking routes and explore the Coromandel Coast. On most days of the trip, we have included a significant walk, ranging from 2 to 7 hours duration. Most of the walking will follow good trails and tracks. Our local guide will accompany the group on all walks, with the exception of the waymarked Tongariro Crossing. There are a couple of days without a trekking element and on these days you could choose to take it easy.
Trip Guide
Putting together this New Zealand hiking trip, we have picked out many of the highlights of this dramatic country. We will use a comfortable minibus throughout our tour and even on those days which involve travelling from one area to another, we try to incorporate a decent walk to allow us to stretch our legs. Starting out on South Island, we make a counter-clockwise circuit, stopping off to take advantage of unmissable day-hikes and shorter walks along the way. Then, taking the ferry across to Wellington on North Island, we tackle one of New Zealand's foremost one-day walks, the Tongariro Crossing. For logistical reasons, related to the support vehicle and our driver/guide, this classic walk on a clearly defined trail will be unguided. On North Island we also make a number of short hikes and explorations on the Coromandel Coast. On most days of the trip, we have included a significant hike, ranging from 2 to 7 hours duration. Most of these walks will follow good trails and tracks. Our local guide will accompany the group on all walks, with the exception of the Tongariro Crossing. There are a couple of days without a trekking element and on these days you could choose to take it easy.
