Grade 2
Cuba is the biggest island in the Caribbean, with a landscape of rolling lowlands, limestone hills and endless tropical beaches. From Havana, with its Spanish architecture and colourful 40-year-old classic American cars, this school’s itinerary heads to the south coast to visit the Bay of Pigs and the colonial cities of Cienfuegos and Trinidad. Continuing the tour westwards to the lovely ‘garden province’ of Pinar del Rio, there is the chance to trek on forest trails, swim in natural pools, visit a tobacco factory, check out the Che Guevara memorial and take a boat ride to the ‘paradise’ island of Cayo Levisa.

Educational perspective

Cuba is a great place to practise the Spanish language. The people are friendly and approachable and welcome the opportunity to speak to visitors to their country.

Amend or Extend
Pico Turquino (1974m) in the Sierra Maestra is Cuba’s highest peak and provides a 2 to 3-day trekking challenge. An itinerary to include this ascent can be arranged.
