In North West Slovenia on the borders of Austria and Italy, the Julian Alps are home to the Triglav National Park, named after Slovenia’s highest peak and iconic national emblem, Triglav at 2864m. / 93569ft. In character the Julian Alps are very similar to their western neighbours the Dolomites, with limestone towers rising above rolling alpine meadow and forests of spruce. Within this landscape there are over 250 miles of cross country trails suitable for all levels of ability, and there are six major ski resorts. During our week of skiing we will be based in the most picturesque of these resorts close to the shores of Lake Bled. Each day our guides will choose the best trails according to the prevailing conditions. Depending on snow levels, many of these begin just outside our accommodation or we may use the ski roads to access the higher level trails. After a day of skiing in the forests and hills around Bled we return to our 3 star pension. The trip also includes a visit to an igloo by snowshoe for a fondue dinner, and a chance to relax and enjoy the special ambiance of Lake Bled. This is a superb winter break both for the novice and the more experienced cross-country skier.
Trip Guide
This trip is graded MODERATE. It is suitable both for skiers new to cross-country and those with more experience. The first day will be an introduction to cross country technique. More experienced skiers will have the option to ski one of the local trails during this day. The local guides have an unrivalled knowledge of the area and they will make the daily route choices based on the snow conditions and the group’s abilities.
