On the west side of Mount Toubkal, the tributary valleys above the River Nfis are amongst the most fertile and attractive in the Atlas and have been home to Berber people for generations. Traversing these foothills from the south, this excellent and quite easy 5-day trek crosses several 2000 metre passes and takes us to villages such as Ameslane and Tisgui, each with their terraced fields and groves of almond and fig trees. Reaching the delightful Azaden Valley, reckoned to be the most beautiful in the region, with its watermills and traditional houses, we camp at Tizi Oussem. From here, we visit the waterfalls at Ighouliden, then climb through juniper woodland to cross the Tizi n’Zik where we have great views of Toubkal’s summit. After a final night at a gite in Ait Souka, we return to Marrakech and have time to explore. A perfect introduction to trekking and to Morocco!
