Day 2: We begin gently, walking from Soufriere down to Scotts Head at the Southern tip of Dominica. This is where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic. Day 3: We have our first views of the tree clad peaks of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Our path meanders through forest dense with fern, bamboo and heliconia, with views down to the coast. Continuing through small villages and old plantations we end in the village of Wotten Waven. Overnight Roseau. Approx distance 13km, 6hrs walking, 650m ascents and 800m descent.
Day 4: A day to explore some of Dominica's sights as well as experience the colourful culture. We start with a look around charming Roseau, followed by a cookery lesson, where we can help prepare a Caribbean lunch. In the afternoon we visit the waterfalls at Trafalgar and take the 1hr stroll around Fresh Water Lake. We return to Roseau in time for dinner.
Day 5: One of our longest walking days as we head through the steaming Valley of Desolation to the world's second largest sulphur spring, Boiling Lake. The trail is steep in parts and there is a small element of scrambling. Overnight guest house Castle Bruce. Approx 8hrs walking, walk distance 11km, 875 m ascent and descent.
Day 6: We head East, along the rugged Atlantic coastline today. Here we meet Dominica's indigenous people, the Kalinago, giving us insight into their culture and lifestyles. The terrain is open, undulating and along ridges with fabulous views. We pass through Kalinago hamlets selling handicrafts. Overnight Picard, Portsmouth. Approx 4.5hrs walking, walk distance 7km, 350m ascent, 400m descent.
Day 7: We walk along old Estate tracks from Colihaut Heights to Ros Castle. The trail is surrounded by colourful flowers, fruit trees and citrus orchards. We can enjoy picking the delicious wild raspberries as we walk along. Afterwards we head to Brandy Manor for afternoon tea Caribbean style! Day 8: Today we journey down the mangrove lined Indian River by rowing boat. Our guide will tell us all about the interesting wildlife surrounding the river and we can be almost certain of seeing sisserou parrots today. Next, we visit historic Fort Shirley, which sits on the hill above Portsmouth. We enjoy a picnic lunch as we take in the views. The rest of the day is free to swim and relax on the beach.
Day 9: Our last day of walking takes us along the northern tip of the island and along the paradise coastline, offering splendid views of Guadeloupe to the North. We end with a boat ride along the bay before heading to our overnight accommodation in Melville Hall, close to the airport, where we end our holiday with a celebratory dinner. Approx 3-4hrs walking, walk distance 10km.
Day 10: We end our holiday on this idyllic Caribbean island with a single timed transfer to the airport where KE Land Only package services end.
