Delhi to Kathmandu
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Delhi. KE Land Only Package services begin with a complimentary airport transfer to the hotel. We meet our guide and have a briefing on the week ahead. After lunch at the hotel we will visit the Humayun tomb and Qutab Minar. Overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: This morning we take a tour of Old Delhi by foot and by rickshaw. We then drive to Jaipur stopping en route to visit the Amber Fort. Overnight in a hotel in Jaipur.
Day 3: We have a Jaipur city tour which will include a visit to the Hawa Mahal (palace of the winds), the Janta Manta astronomical observatory, and the City Place. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 4: We drive to Agra via the old Mughal capital od Fatehpur Sikri which has been preserved as a superb example of a royal walled city. Continuing to Agra we visit the Red Fort and check into our hotel.
Day 5: This morning at sunrise we visit the Taj Mahal one of the man made 'seven wonders' of the world. The afternoon is free for further independent sightseeing or shopping. In the evening we transfer to the railway station to catch the overnight train across India to Varanasi.
Day 6: We arrive in Varanasi in the morning and transfer to our hotel in the city. The rest of the day is free for independent sightseeing in this holiest of Indian cities. In the evening we visit the ghats of the holy Ganges to view Aarti where oil lamps are floated on the river. Overnight in Varanasi hotel.
Day 7: Leaving the hotel in the dark we make our way to the ghats where we take boat out on the river for one of India's most magical experiences watching the sunrise from the Ganges. We return to the hotel for breakfast and then drive to Sarnath ruins, the site of the Buddha's first sermon. Second night in Varanasi hotel.
Day 8: Today we drive north crossing the border into Nepal at Sounauli before continuing to the world heritage site of Lumbini the birthplace of the Buddha. 10 - 12 hours journey including stops and border formalities.
Day 9: This morning we look round the famous sights of Lumbini including the Bodhi tree, the Asokan pillar and the various temples and pagodas ancient and modern. We then have a relatively short (2 - 3 hours) drive to the Chitwan National Park. This afternoon we will go out wildlife spotting with a naturalist guide and we stay tonight in a jungle lodge.
Day 10: An early rise to take advantage of the busy dawn time at the watering holes. We will return to the lodge for breakfast before going out again with our guide. During our stay at Chitwan we will make our wildlife observations on elephant back, on foot and by canoe. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 11: Another early start to see the dawn activity. After breakfast we then set off on the road to Kathmandu, driving through the most spectacular scenery of the Himalayan foothills. Arriving in Kathmandu early evening we check in to our hotel.
Day 12: Those who wish have the option this morning to take a spectacular mountain flight. Later in the morning we have a guided tour of some of the city's most important sights. The afternoon is free for further independent sightseeing of for shopping in the colourful bazaar.
Day 13: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
