The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.

You must bring the following items:

Hiking boots

Socks

Trekking trousers / pants

Waterproof overtrousers / rainpants

Underwear

Baselayer shirts

Casual shirt and/or T-shirts

Fleece jacket or warm jumper/sweater

Waterproof jacket

Sunhat

Warm hat

Eyewear - Sunglasses

Gloves or mittens

Headtorch/Headlamp with spare batteries

Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)

Water bottles 1 Litre (1 Quart) x2

Washbag and toiletries

Antibacterial handwash

Small padlock (to lock trek bag)

Daypack 25 - 30 litres

Basic First Aid Kit including: Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, plasters (band-aids) and blister treatment,and insect repellent.

The following items are optional:

Trekking poles

Training shoes /Sneakers or similar

Shorts

Gaiters

Scarf or buff

Swimwear and towel (for thermal pools)

Travel clothes

Camera, memory cards, batteries

Equipment required for the Cotopaxi Climb option only

Mountaineering boots (see note below)*

Crampons (10 or 12 point, preferably with ‘step-in’ bindings)*

Climbing harness with 1 screwgate karabiner*

Ice axe *

Insulated over-gloves or mittens

Ski goggles

4 season sleeping bag*

Mountaineering boots: For those opting for the climb of Cotopaxi we recommend either double mountaineering boots or insulated mountain boots designed for Alpine conditions. Recommended boots of this type are - Sportiva Nepal (Extreme / EVO GTX models), Scarpa Cumbre, Salomon Prothermic, Millet Alpinist GTX.

Equipment hire:Items marked * can be hired locally and reserved in advance through KE Adventure Travel. Please let the guide know on your arrival in Quito, which items of equipment you would like to hire. The equipment will be issued in Banos on Day 10, where you will pay for the hire equipment directly.
