Everest from Tibet Discovery Tour
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kathmandu. Complimentary airport transfers provided for all clients. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner and overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: A free day in Kathmandu while our agent processes the group visa for Tibet. There is the option for a guided tour of some of the city's most important sights.
Day 3: We take the dramatic flight across the Nepal Himalaya from Kathmandu to Lhasa. We are met at the airport and make the transfer to our hotel in the city.
Day 4: A day in Lhasa for sightseeing and acclimatisation. We visit the Jokhang Temple and the adjacent market area of the Barkor.
Day 5: Another Lhasa sightseeing and acclimatising day. We visit the incomparable Potala Palace and the afternoon is free to relax in a Barkor cafe.
Day 6: Our final acclimatisation day. We visit the Sera Monastery and the Drepung Monastery, each of which is located just outside the city.
Day 7: We drive 1.5 hours to the ferry across the Tsangpo River. Crossing over we visit the Samye Monastery. Overnight in the basic monastery guest house.
Day 8: Drive over the Khamba La, passing the beautiful Namdrok Lake. Overnight in a hotel in Nagartse with time to visit Samding Monastery.
Day 9: Our westward journey takes us across the Karo and Simi passes to Gyantse, where we check in at our hotel and have time to explore the golden-roofed Kumbum.
Day 10: It is just a short drive to Shigatse and our hotel. Here we visit the Tashilunpo and can walk the pilgrim's trail around this monastic complex.
Day 11: Today, we cross the highest pass on the Friendship Highway, the Gyamtso La (5220m / 17,125ft) and have our first views of Everest. Overnight at a hotel in Shegar.
Day 12: Leaving the main highway, we drive south to the famous Rongbuk Monastery, where we camp beneath Everest's awe-inspring north face.
Day 13: A rest day in the Rongbuk Valley. We enjoy the views, explore the monastery and spend a second night at the monastery campsite.
Day 14: Driving directly back to the main road at Tingri, we continue our journey to the edge of the Tibetan Plateau and descend to the border town of Zangmu, where we stay in a hotel.
Day 15: Crossing into Nepal, we continue descending to Dolaghat then climb again to Dhulikel and on to Kathmandu. Afternoon free. Overnight in the group hotel.
Day 16: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
This holiday involves going to very high altitude. During the course of your trip you will be spending at least one night above 4000 metres and/or trekking to 5000 metres or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude.
