On the trail to Everest Base CampSunset on the Everest trail

  • Trek from Jiri to Everest Base camp
  • Quiet walking trails and excellent acclimatisation
  • Follow in the footsteps of the early Himalayan expeditions
  • Trek from the foothills of Nepal to the highest peaks
  • Trekking holiday with all the best Khumbu views

Starting the trek to Mount Everest at Jiri, we follow the same walk-in as the earliest Everest expeditions of the 1950's. For the first week, it's a real roller-coaster holiday, as we trek between the remote valleys of the Solu Khumbu and set up our camp each night at peaceful Sherpa villages. Reaching the Dudh Kosi River, we head north to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to one of the most remarkable mountain landscapes on earth. Fit and acclimatised after our long approach, we can enjoy all of the sights of the high Khumbu, as our trek continues through the monastery village of Thyangboche and on towards Everest. Above the highest of the Khumbu's tea-houses at Gorak Shep (5288m), there is the option to hike along the Khumbu Glacier to Everest basecamp and also to climb to the top of Kala Patar, for arguably the best Everest views.

Is this holiday for you?

This Nepal trekking holiday follows well established trails throughout. Travelling east across the 'grain' of the country means that you will have a fair amount of accumulated ascent and descent on the trip and there are several high passes to trek across en route to the Dudh Kosi, including the Lamjura Pass at 3530m. / 11,580ft. On reaching the Sherpa capital of Namche in the Khumbu you will be fit and well acclimatised to follow the classic route to Everest Base Camp. This is a long and tough trek and we have given it our DEMANDING grade to reflect the sustained nature of the trekking and the high altitudes encountered in the final week.
