Crete Family Adventure - Coast and Mountains
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at Chania Airport. KE Land Only package services begin with a single group transfer inland to our hotel in the mountain village of Omalos.
Day 2: Today, we walk the first part of the gorge that leads from Agia Irini down towards the sea. After around 3 hours, we meet our transport and drive to the port of Soughia. Here, we check in at our hotel and have the first chance of a swim in the sea.
Day 3: Less than 2 hours' walk from the harbour in Soughia, through shading pine groves, we find the ancient Cretan site of Lissos. There are some interesting Roman ruins here (as well as ancient olive trees) and it is a tranquil place to eat our packed lunches, before returning to Soughia.
Day 4: We take the morning ferry along the coast to Agia Roumeli, which is at the mouth of the Samaria Gorge and inaccessible by road. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy the beach and to take it easy in one of several beach-front cafes.
Day 5: Today, we have a longish, level and superbly scenic coastal walk to the tiny seaside hamlet of Finix. Sometimes we are actually on the beach and sometimes on a path amongst pine trees. The chapel of Saint Paul (on the beach) makes a good place to stop off for a swim and for lunch.
Day 6: We take a trip by private boat back along the coast to an isolated beach to the west of Agia Roumeli. A great place for a swim and for a picnic. We have good views of the White Mountains and of our previous day's walk from the seaward perspective. Return to Finix.
Day 7: We have an exciting ride up into the White Mountains and the chance to make the 4-hour round trip on foot to the top of Pachnes, where we can enjoy fine views and a tasty picnic. Returning to Finix, we may be able to arrange a visit to the nearby goat farm at milking time.
Day 8: We make the return transfer across the White Mountains to Chania where KE Land Only package services end.
