With unspoiled beaches, welcoming people and a mix of coastal and mountain landscapes, Albania is perfect for families keen to explore the ‘New Europe'. We take the ‘Dajti Express' cable car to our hotel above Tirana, before hiking to the prehistoric Pellumbas Village. Heading south to Dhermi Beach, we camp on the shore to enjoy the sun and surf, then drive along the Albanian Riviera to visit the UNESCO archaeological park at Butrint. From our guesthouse in Permet, we hike into the Langarica Canyon and ‘tube' out through its pools, followed by a soak in a hot spring. Dinner in an atmospheric restaurant within the walls of Berat, the best-preserved Ottoman town in the Balkans, nicely rounds off this fabulous Albanian Adventure.

Is this holiday for you?

Albania is a hidden corner of Europe, and far from the madding crowds of other countries lining the Mediterranean Sea! Tourism and infrastructure are undeveloped making the country a perfect destination for adventurous families who want to escape busy resorts. This itinerary includes some short walks, tubing in the Langarica Canyon, a cable car ride, options to swim in the sea and visits to ancient ruins and prehistoric caves. There are no long walks, but on account of the canyoning we have suggested a minimum age for children of 8 years old.
