With unspoiled beaches, welcoming people and a mix of coastal and mountain landscapes, Albania is perfect for families keen to explore the ‘New Europe'. Our itinerary is designed to discover this interesting country and make it exciting for the whole family. Our first night, in the capital of Tirana, the hotel is accessible by a cable car. We then move onto the ‘Black Cave' of Pellumbas to see the prehistoric settlements and learn about the cave dwellers. Travelling south we camp on the beach of the Ionian Sea (allowing some swimming in these warm Mediterranean waters) and relax under the olive groves. A visit to the pretty incredible frescos painted church of St Mary at Dhermi (even the children will love this church!), and a visit to the ancient Greek UNSECO archaeological site at Butrint gives us some proper history education. We then have an exciting morning partaking in white-water rafting along the River Vjosa followed by a soak in a hot spring. Dinner in an atmospheric restaurant within the walls of Berat, the best-preserved Ottoman town in the Balkans, nicely rounds off this fabulous family adventure holiday in Albania. A great holiday for all round education and adventurous fun.
