North of the main ranges of the Indian Himalaya, the remote province of Ladakh is beyond the influence of the monsoon and perfect for trekking during the summer holiday period. Experienced travellers will find this a great place for an adventurous family holiday. Our super, family-specific itinerary starts out by way of the exciting flight to the Ladakhi capital of Leh, where we spend 5 days acclimatising, taking things nice and easy whilst exploring some of the colourful Buddhist monasteries of the upper Indus Valley. We visit a Tibetan Refugee Centre and enjoy a rafting trip on the Indus. We then set off on an easy-paced 5-day trek into the scenically splendid foothills of the Ladakh Range, with lots of opportunity for interaction with the friendly local people in the many villages we pass through. Throughout our trek and especially from the several 4000 metre passes on our route, there are wonderful views of the Zanskar Mountains to the south. After our time in Ladakh, this excellent holiday is topped off with a visit to Agra and the magnificent Taj Mahal.

This is a real Himalayan trek for families, set amongst the high valleys of Ladakh at around 4000 metres. After 5-days of acclimatising in and around Leh, the trek is short and easy on good trails, involving just 3 or 4 hours walking on most days and frequent stops. Even on the crossing of the highest passes on the trek, we will find good trails, which are the main routes between the villages on our route. Comfortable accommodation and fully supported camping whilst on trek, this trip is suitable for children of 11 years and over and an ideal family holiday for the summer break.
