Family Adventure -Villages & Monasteries of Ladakh
By: Janet Mackenzie, Utica, USA
We loved the time spent in the villages. Rafting was particularly glorious for son age 12 and represented a wonderful change from our other acclimatization experiences. The trek itself was fabulous and allowed hours and hours where we did not see another human being whilst in the mountains. The feeling of accomplishment that my family shared whilst on trek was beyond words. Support staff were superb, absolutely superb. Finally, our Ladakhi guide Jamyang took us to his home for tea one afternoon following an acclimatization hike in Leh. It was a rare pleasure to see a bit of regular life in Ladakh while we sipped a cup of tea.
I was not expecting such an authentic experience in Ladakh. I suppose I was anticipating a rather sanitized, diluted trek with my kids. Much to my pleasant surprise, the trip was a "real" trek and greatly exceeded my expectations. The occasional afternoons with some "down time" were welcome to walk into town, play an impromptu game of cricket, or write in my travel journal. The time in Delhi/Agra was just about right: time to see the sights but not excessive.
My research suggested that KE was a top outfitter for trekking and one of the most hightly rated for family adventure travel.
