Mingalarbar! Welcome to Burma. Kipling wrote that Burma was "quite unlike any land you know about" and this family adventure holiday in Burma gives a flavour of its many wonders. In the ancient capital Yangon, a visit to the golden Schwedagon Pagoda at sunset is a must, and a perfect introduction to the Buddhist culture of this long closed society. Next we explore the ‘temple plain' of Bagan, take a sunset horse cart ride on the banks of the Irrawaddy and share a lesson with young monks at their school. A short walk from the British hill-station of Kalaw takes us into tea plantations and local villages before we visit Pindaya and its famous Buddha caves. Finally we head to the spectacular Inle Lake, home to the famous Intha leg-rowers, where we spend a day cruising on the lake visiting a silversmith, silk weavers and boat builders. Returning to Yangon, there is a last-chance to shop for souvenirs in the market before soaking up the unique vibe of this atmospheric city. Combining fun activities with a simply unique cultural and educational experience, this will be a holiday of a lifetime for any family.
Is this holiday for you?
Suitable for children from 6 yrs old
This holiday is designed for families to experience some of the highlights and the distinct culture of the incredible country of Myanmar (Burma). The emphasis is on touring and sightseeing and making it fun for the family at the same time. There will be some relatively easy walks of up to 2 hours to enable the family to fully experience sights such as the temples at Bagan and the hill villages at Kalaw. The accommodation we use throughout the tour is very comfortable in well-located hotels at 3 star or above standard and we have the use of a hotel pool on 6 of the 10 nights. In order to see the key sights of Myanmar, it is necessary to travel some distance during the holiday. With families in mind we make this as comfortable as possible, using 3 internal flights of between 1 and 1.5 hours duration, while road transfers are kept to a minimum and are generally short, up to a maximum of 3 hours.
