Hidden away amongst the high ridges of Morocco's Central Atlas, the stunningly beautiful Bougmez Valley has managed to preserve a traditional Berber way of life that closely follows the seasons and is based on agriculture and the herding of livestock. Just 4 hours drive from Marrakech, it is the perfect place for a family adventure and an easy introduction to trekking for little people. Accommodation in the valley is in a traditional gite with modern facilities in the attractive Berber village of Agouti. Starting out with an easy orientation walk through the 'Happy Valley', we then have a 2-day trekking adventure with an overnight camp in the mountains exploring amongst the vibrant green fields, dry-stone villages and sparkling streams of the Central Atlas. Including 2 nights in Marrakech staying at a 4 star hotel with swimming pool, this is a great addition to our programme of Moroccan family holidays.
Running a select few of the departures in conjunction with our friends at Allibert Trekking in France, gives the holiday an international flavour and also gives you, and your children the chance to improve your French. Is this holiday for you?
This family holiday is a perfect introduction to Berber culture in a quiet valley. There are three walking days where for the most part, we will follow good trails between villages and high grazing pastures. There is much to interest youngsters along the way and the pace of the walks is designed with small legs in mind. However, all the family should be comfortable with walking for up to 4 or 5 hours each day at a leisurely pace. At the end of the trip while exploring the fascinating sights of Marrakech, the family can relax in comfort at a 4 star hotel with swimming pool. This trip is suitable for children of 6 years and over who have previous experience of trail-walking.
