The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.

You must bring the following items:

Comfortable shoes or boots for hiking

Socks

Trainers / sneakers or sandals

Trekking trousers / pants

Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants

Underwear

Shirts (2 short sleeve, 2 long sleeve)

Fleece jacket or warm jumper (for evenings outside)

Lightweight windproof/waterproof jacket

Sunhat

Warm hat

Sleeping bag (rated down to +5°)

Eyewear - Sunglasses

Lightweight gloves

Daypack c.20 - 30 litres (depending on how much of the family’s gear you are carrying)

Water bottles 1 Litre / 2 pint

Headtorch / headlamp with spare batteries

Washbag and toiletries

Basic First Aid Kit:You should bring your own personal first aid kit consisting of the following: A broad spectrum antibiotic, antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, plasters (band aids) and blister treatment, Insect repellent (DEET), and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)

Swimwear (for the hotel pool)

Small padlock (to lock your KE kit bag)

The following items are optional:

Sheet sleeping bag

Shorts

Antibacterial handwash

Trekking poles

Insect repellant – (DEET)

Camera, film, batteries

Travel clothes

Pocket-knife (note: always pack sharp objects in hold baggage)

Repair kit – (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)
