Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Antananarivo. A group transfer from the airport is provided. KE Land Only services begin with the evening meal and a meeting with the local guide. Overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: Our holiday starts with a journey east to Perinet National Park to experience the Indri-indri. We break our journey at a Bufferfly and Chameleon Centre in Mandraka. On arrival in Perinet we check into our bungalows with views over the forest.
Day 3: This morning we enter the park with local guides to see the incredible lemurs - Indri indri. These are the largest lemurs and have fascinating family group behaviour, especially their famous call. Other species include the bamboo and woolly lemur. After lunch at the hotel we visit the Association Mitsinjo and their work in habitat conservation and sustainable income for the local population.
Day 4: We depart Perinet after breakfast and drive to Manambato, where we climb aboard a boat for our journey up the Canal des Pangalanes. The 600 km canal was constructed in the late 1890's Today it is a tranquil place full of wildlife and local people. We arrive at our wilderness lodge, which is perched on a hill overlooking the Ampitabe Lake.
Day 5: Today we have a short walk to the Palmarium Reserve. A local guide will take us through the forest and take us to see the lemurs. These friendly forest dwellers are habituated, making photographing them easy and rewarding. We can see Indri-Indri, Sifaka, Black & White ruffed and many more. We have the afternoon we visit a nearby village school and then have the rest of the afternoon to relax.
Day 6: Leaving our lodge we continue up the canal Toamasina. This river port is colourful and vibrant, with interesting fishing vessels and scenery. We may have opportunities to stop along the way at the local fishermens villages and to walk along the beach. On arrival we transfer to our hotel in this bustling river port town. Day 7: If there is time before our flight to Ile Ste Marie we can stroll around the market and have a picnic lunch at Ivoloina Park. We fly to Ste Marie, the paradise island with white sandy beaches, palm trees and peace and quite. Overnight hotel on Ile Ste Marie.
Day 8: A full day of leisure on Ile Ste Marie. We can relax on the beach and in the hotel pool or hire a bike to explore the islands pirate graveyards and local villages. It is also possible to canoe across the lagoon and stroll on the deserted beaches. Overnight hotel on Ile Ste Marie.
Day 9: A full day of leisure on Ile Ste Marie. Also available from the hotel are outings to coral reefs for snorkelling or diving, or another day relaxing and enjoying some beach games near the hotel. Overnight hotel on Ile Ste Marie.
Day 10: After a final swim and a good breakfast we transfer to the airport for the flight back to Tana. Depending on the flight schedule we will either have lunch in Ste Marie or Tana. In the afternoon we can visit the craft markets and maybe purchase some souvenirs. Rest of the afternoon at leisure in Tana. Overnight hotel Tana.
Day 11: KE Land Only services end after breakfast. A single timed airport transfer is provided.
