Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Cusco. Complimentary airport transfers are provided. KE Land Only package services begin with a walking tour of this fascinating ancient city. Overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: Drive to the upper Urubamba River for some fun grade II-III rafting. Full instruction is provided and previous experience is unnecessary. Return to the group hotel in Cusco.
Day 3: An exploration day in and around Cusco. Using horses we visit the Inca ruins at Pucara, Tambo Machay and Sacsayhuaman. We spend a third night at our Cusco hotel
Day 4: We spend the morning in inflatable canoes on a scenic and fun stretch of the Rio Urubamba. Then we transfer to our hotel in Pisac and enjoy some free time to explore Pisac's artesan market.
Day 5: From nearby Chinchero, we enjoy an easy mountain bike adventure, descending into the Sacred Valley via the salt pans at Maras. We then continue by bus through the sacred valley to Ollantaytambo where we check into our hotel.
Day 6: We take the train to KM 104 and then hike to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate. We descend through the ruins and take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where we stay in a hostal. If there are no permits we enjoy activities in Aguas Calientes or simply visit Machu Picchu.
Day 7: We return to Machu Picchu in the morning for a guided tour, with time afterwards to explore and wander through the ruins. We travel by train and bus back to our hotel in Cusco.
Day 8: A free day in Cusco. Time to explore Inca ruins, visit Spanish Colonial churches or do some bargain hunting in the Indian markets. Another night at our comfortable hotel.
Day 9: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude.
