Winter Wonderland - Sweden Family Adventure

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kiruna. Transfers are provided for clients arriving on the group flight. KE Land Only group package services begin with dinner and overnight at Camp Ripan.
Day 2: After breakfast we transfer to Laukkuluspa for a one-day snowmobile out in the winter landscapes. We have a good chance of seeing moose enroute to the Sami Hut where we have lunch around an open fire. Weather and temperatures permitting we can try some icefishing. Return to Ripan where we can relax, before sitting down to dinner in the restaurant.
Day 3: Today it's Husky sledding. From our accommodation we meet the friendly Alaskan huskies preparing for the ride. Sitting on our reindeer hides on the sledges we glid off into the snowy landscapes. We stop at a Sami-style tepee for a hot drink before returning to the hotel. In the evening we have a magical snowshoe walk underneath the spectacular Northern lights.
Day 4: Visit to Jukkasjarvi for a tour of the world famous Icehotel. We can also visit the small village with it's old church and homestay, and see the reindeer herds. After lunch back at Camp Ripan we can learn about the modern Sami reindeer herders through an interactive presentation.
Day 5: This morning we are given some basic lessons in cross-country skiing. We are then free to ski the picturesque trails close to Camp Ripan. After lunch we have the afternoon free to enjoy further optional activities like further snowshoeing or skiing.
Day 6: Transfer to Kiruna Airport in the late morning. KE Land Only group package services end on arrival at the airport.
Christmas is special in this part of Sweden and Camp Ripan take extra care to ensure that it is as magical as could ever be. Departures which fall over the Christmas days have a slightly different format, and the itinerary will be in a different order to accommodate the celebrations.
In search of the Christmas Tree
In the morning of Christmas eve we set off by snowmobile and sled to find this years Christmas tree, which we will decorate in the entrance hall of Camp Ripan. We settle down in the cosy reindeer skins on the sled and set off. Once in the forest we will find the most beautiful spruce tree and bring it back with us. We'll light a fire and drink hot chocolate whilst we decorate it with lights, glittering tinsel and ornaments.
Swedish Christmas Dinner - the Smorgasbord
In the evening of the 24th Christmas the Swedish have their ‘Christmas Dinner'. This smorgasbord feast is a selection of the finest herring, salmon, hams, smoked reindeer, lamb, deer, meatballs and much much more. There will of course also be an option for the vegetarians!
Father Christmas arrives on his sled pulled by his reindeer
This is the highlight for big and small! As Father Christmas arrives through the wintery evening on his sled pulled by the real reindeer - surely it can't get more magical! He tells a take of the eventful journey over the mountains through the snow storm and everyone is given the chance to acquaint themselves with the reindeer. All the children will also receive a small gift from Father Christmas.
Christmas Day torchlight procession
First thing on Christmas morning, together we have a torchlight procession through the snow to the Kiruna Church. The early Christmas service, Julotta, is an old Swedish Christmas tradition. Even although many Swedes do not attend regular church services, they do take part on Christmas Day. The Kiruna Church, which beautiful and based on a large Sami hut, was honoured with the accolade of ‘Sweden's Most Beautiful Building 2000'.
