Family Walking Experts

Using our experience and expertise, we have designed this fun walking holiday, combining the very best Tenerife day-walks

  • A Canary Islands walking holiday for active families
  • Walk to the top of Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak
  • All aboard for a whale and dolphin-watching cruise
  • Stay at the cosy Refugio Altavista on Teide with great views
  • Learn about vulcanology in the lava tube `Cueva del Viento`

This spectacular family walking adventure holiday offers the very best of Tenerife, the biggest and most varied of the Canary Islands. We explore contrasting trails, from the lunar landscape of Las Canadas and rugged Masca Gorge to the verdant laurel forest and coastal views of Anaga. An undoubted highlight is the night we spend at the cosy Refugio Altavista, followed by the hike to the top of Mount Teide (3718m) as the early morning light casts a giant triangular shadow across the island. Other highlights include a dolphin-watching boat trip, a visit to the Cueva del Viento, one of the world's biggest lava tubes, and the chance to swim in the sea-water pools at the old port of Garachico. With comfortable and characterful accommodation and all meals included, this is a fun-packed experience for all the family!

Is this holiday for you?

Suitable for children from 10 yrs old

This family walking holiday has been designed especially for families and includes several days of walking on the island of Tenerife. This is a holiday for active families with children who enjoy regular weekend hill walking adventures. We have 6 nights in comfortable hotels (in 2 locations - Vilaflor and Los Realejos) and a single night at the Refugio Altavista on Mount Teide, at an elevation of 3200 metres. Note that our access to this refuge is facilitated by using the Mount Teide cable car. The optional walk to the top of Mount Teide from this refuge (and the subsequent descent to the road) will take at least 5 hours and is the toughest day-walk of the holiday. Several of the day-walks are much easier, at around 3 to 4 hours of walking on good trails and paths. Descending the Masca Gorge to the sea has short sections of easy scrambling. Otherwise, the walking presents no technical difficulty.
