Vietnam - Jungles and Junks
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots
Sandals or shoes that are comfortable when wet (for the kayaking)
Socks
Spare laces
Trekking trousers/pants
Lightweight waterproof overtrousers/rain-pants
Underwear
Shorts
Thermal baselayer shirts
Shirts and/or T-shirts
Fleece jacket or warm jumper
Lightweight windproof/waterproof jacket
Warm hat
Eyewear-Sunglasses
Lightweight thermal gloves
Headtorch / headlamp with spare batteries
Water bottles 1 Litre / 2 pints (x2)
Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)
Small towel (for the homestays)
Washbag and toiletries
Antibacterial hand wash
Wet wipes
Sleeping Bag Liner
Daypack c.20 - 30 litres / 1200 - 1800 cubic inches (depending on how much of the familys kit you want to carry)
Basic First Aid Kit including : Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Immodium), painkillers, plasters (band-aids), and blister treatment, Insect repellent (DEET), antihistamine cream and tablets, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are a good idea.
The following items are optional:
Swimwear
Insect repellent (DEET)
Trekking poles
Pocket-knife (note: always pack sharp objects in hold baggage)
Repair kit (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)
Small padlock (to lock your KE trek bag)
Camera, film / memory cards, batteries
Specialist equipment
