Trekking in Georgia and the High Caucasus

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Tbilisi. KE Land Only group package services begin with the early hours group transfer from Tbilisi Airport. After a few hours rest, then breakfast, we drive up the famous Georgian Military Highway and along the Tergi River to the town of Kazbegi. After a visit to Gergeti Trinity Church, we drive to the village of Juta, camping close the village (2300m).
Day 2: Today we walk through the High Caucasus, enjoying the beautiful views. Leaving the Khevi region, we trek into the area called Khevsureti. Tonight we camp close to the village at Roshka (2000m). Approx 6-8 hours walking, 16km, 930m ascent and 1229m descent.
Day 3: A day of descent as we trek down a beautiful flower-filled trail to the Khevsuri Aragvi River. From the river a short ascent to Gudani village, and just above here we set up camp for the night. Approx 6-8 hours walking, 11km, 650m ascent and 770m descent.
Day 4: Fabulous mountain views as we make the ascent to a ridgepoint with views of the Barbalo Pass (2996m). From the ridgeline, it's a steep descent to Kistani on the Arghuni River. We camp close to the tiny hamlet of Kistani. Approx 8-10 hours walking, 14km, 1359m ascent, 1183 descent.
Day 5: Today we will cross the Tsubrovana Pass (2880m). With a steep ascent to the pass, and a steep descent the walking is tough for the first half of the day. The walking becomes gentler as we pass thorough meadows to the remove and beautiful Khevsurian villages of Khakhabo and Ardoti. Approx 10 hrs walking. 17km, 1233m ascent and 1572m descent.
Day 6: Our walk follows the Andaki River to the winter village of Bakhao, crossing the Khadotani Pass (2460m) before descending to the Khonisukali River and Khonischala village, and on to the village of Mutso. From here its a short walk to our campsite. Approx 6-8 hours walking, 19km, 1483 ascent and 1702 descent.
Day 7: We drive to Shatili, a spectacular 9th century stone village near the Chechen border, which we have time to explore, before returning to Tbilisi where we spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
Day 8: Today we will have sightseeing tour of Old Tbilisi, exploring the narrow streets and different religious buildings and the Georgian National History Museum. Later we visit the ancient Georgian capital city, Mtskheta and it's 3000 year old sights. After dinner in a traditional restaurant, we return to our Tbilisi hotel.
Day 9: Early transfer to the airport for departure. KE Land Only group package services end with breakfast and a single timed transfer to Tbilisi Airport.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
