Grand Traverse of the Jura Ski Tour
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at approximately 6pm in the group's accommodation in the small French town of Morteau. Your guide will give a briefing on the days ahead, help organise ski hire and answer any questions.
Day 2: We begin by transferring to the trailhead at Le Gardot and take it easy to start with as we find our ski legs. We journey through pine forests and cross snow-covered meadows to reach Les Cernets, which is in Switzerland. (23kms)
Day 3: We begin with a descent to Les Verrieres de Joux where we cross the border back into France and onto the next section of trail. Climbing through the woods, we reach the rolling terrain that takes us to the small ski resort of Metabief. (29.5kms)
Day 4: Leaving Metabief we rejoin the trail that takes us back off the beaten track. Skiing through pine woods we find a delightful restaurant with a roaring fire. After lunch we ski gently downhill to Mouthe and La Source du Doubs. (29kms)
Day 5: The next three days of our journey take us along the race course of the famous "Transjurassienne", France's longest cross-country ski race, to Pre Poncet. As we enter the Combe des Cives the terrain angle eases for an enjoyable ski down into Chappelle des Bois. (26.5kms)
Day 6: Chappelle des Bois in the Haut Jura boasts first class ski trails. From here we have the option to ski to Bellefontaine or Bois d'Amont. Either option yields superb views, before we reach Les Rousses for the night. (Route via Bellefontaine 29kms, alternative 16.7kms)
Day 7: Today we head up to the Foret du Massacre, from where there are excellent views. Our high point of the day is in the heart of the forest where we rest before continuing to Lajoux. (26.5kms)
Day 8: Our final and longest day completes the traverse! Winding our way up to Bellecombe we reach the rocky crest of the Jura from where there are fabulous views. Descending to Giron we meet our transport to the village of Lancrans for a celebratory dinner and final night. (28.5kms)
Day 9: KE package services end after breakfast.
