Trekking Guatemalas Magnificent Seven
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at group hotel. Single timed airport transfer. KE Land Only services begin with the overnight. Hotel.
Day 2: A day for sightseeing in this fascinating old Spanish Colonial city, now a World Heritage Site. Hotel.
Day 3: Our volcano odyssey begins with a short but exciting ascent of smoking Pacaya overlooking Guatemala City. We reach a high point of approximately 2100 metres on this very active volcano before returning to Antigua. Overnight in the group hotel.
Day 4: Volcan Agua (3766m) dominates the skyline above Antigua. Today we make the 1700 metre ascent to the summit of this extinct volcano. Return to Antigua. Hotel.
Day 5: Driving to the small settlement of La Soledad we begin our ascent of Acatenango (3975m). Our overnight halt is spectacularly located just below the summit on the saddle between Acatenango and Fuego. Here we have awesome views of Fuego's eruptions. Camp.
Day 6: After admiring the sunrise and a hearty breakfast we ascend Fuego to a safe distance for viewing its regular eruptions and return to the saddle where we camp at the same campsite for a second night.
Day 7: A long dusty descent from the col to our waiting transport and we transfer to Antigua. The afternoon is free to further enjoy this charming town. Hotel.
Day 8: We have a scenic drive across the highlands to reach Guatemala's second city of Quetzaltenango. Hotel.
Day 9: Our next objective is Santa Maria (3770m). It will take us about 5 hours to reach the summit where we have a bird's eye view into the fiery crater of the nearby active Volcan Santiaguto. Camp.
Day 10: Descending first to Quetzaltenango we visit the hot springs at Fuentes Georginas set in a verdant gorge. Overnight at Quetzaltenango. Hotel.
Day 11: A longish day to reach the highest point in Central America. Beginning with a drive to the village of Tuican, we climb Tajumulco and descend to a camp (c.3000m).
Day 12: After a short trek we transfer to Lake Atitlan. From the colourful Indian town of Panajachal we take a boat to our hotel, the Casa del Mundo.
Day 13: The final volcano of this volcano tour is San Pedro (3040m) which gives us breathtaking views over the Lake. We return to the Casa del Mundo. Hotel.
Day 14: We take a boat back to Panajachal and transfer to Antigua. We have a final afternoon and evening to enjoy the many bars and street cafes. Hotel.
Day 15: Single timed airport transfer in the morning. KE Land Only services end.
