Walking the Great Wall of China
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. The packed weight of your trek bag while trekking should be no more than 15 kgs/33 lbs.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots or walking shoes
Alternative footwear for sightseeing
Socks
Underwear
Trekking trousers / pants (i.e. not jeans)
Waterproof jacket
Trekking shirt (wicking)
Casual shirt and/or T-shirts
Fleece jacket or warm jumper/sweater
Sunhat
Eyewear Sunglasses
Washbag and toiletries
Antibacterial handwash
Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)
Water bottle
Daypack 20 - 30 litres
Torch/flashlight
Basic First Aid Kit including plasters (band aids), blister kit and painkillers
Small padlock (to lock trek bag)
The following items are optional:
Swimwear
Trekking poles
Spare laces
Insect repellant
Camera, media, spare batteries
Penknife (remember to pack sharp objects in hold baggage)
Repair kit (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)
