Within just 4 days, this explosive short break shows off the very best of Iceland's remarkable volcanic landscapes, including the currently active craters of Eyjafjallajokull. We make a complete circuit of the Fjallabak wilderness, where a whole range of volcanic phenomena are displayed like nowhere else in Europe. Our 4x4 transport takes us close to the infamous Hekla, across fields of ash and via impressive crater lakes to the pleasant valley of Landmannalaugar, renowned for its hot springs. The viewpoint peak of Blaunukur, just a short walk from our lodge, provides an amazing 360-degree panorama that includes steaming vents and tortured lava flows. The dramatic culmination of this short adventure will be our potentially long hike above Thorsmork to the best viewpoint for the Eyjafjallajokull craters. Having returned to Reykjavik on the scenic southern coast road, there is the option to visit the Icelandic capital's Blue Lagoon hot springs on the final morning.

This short holiday offers the opportunity of exploring Iceland's most dramatic wilderness regions using 4X4 vehicles. The itinerary also includes two short hikes to reach the best viewpoints for the volcanoes. These hikes will be between 2 and 4 hours and possibly over trackless terrain with some uphill sections. Overall, the grade for this trip is EASY.
