Kangshung Face of Everest

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kathmandu. Complimentary airport transfers provided for all clients. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner and overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: A free day in Kathmandu while our agent processes the group visa for Tibet. There is the option for a guided tour of some of the city's most important sights.
Day 3: We take the dramatic flight across the Nepal Himalaya from Kathmandu to Lhasa. We are met at the airport and make the transfer to our hotel in the city.
Day 4: A day in Lhasa for acclimatisation. During the day we visit the Jokhang Temple, Tibet's holiest shrine and the incomparable Potala Palace. We spend a second night at our Lhasa hotel.
Day 5: We drive west along the new highway following the Tsangpo River to our hotel in Shigatse (3856m / 12,650ft). We arrive in time to visit the Tashilunpo Monastery.
Day 6: Now heading south towards the main chain of the Himalaya, we drive across the Tsuo La and then the Gyamtso La (5220m / 17,060ft) to reach our hotel in Shegar.
Day 7: Leaving the main highway, we climb to the Pang La (5150m / 16,896ft) where we have a spectacular view of Everest. We then descend to Kharta and our first camp of the trip.
Day 8: From Kharta our first day of trekking takes us through several villages to Landrubling (3990m / 13,090ft) where we camp on a shelf above the Kharta River.
Day 9: We climb a moraine ridge to twin lakes below the Shao La, where we have good views of Makalu and Chomolonzo. We set up camp at an altitude of 4560 metres (14,960 feet).
Day 10: Today, we trek across the Shao La (4970m / 16,305ft) and make the rocky descent to our camp on a meadow site above the Karma River.
Day 11: Today's varied trek takes us through juniper forest and by way of herders camps. We finally cross a ridge to a camping place at Parthang (4340m / 14,240ft).
Day 12: We continue up valley to reach the meadows of Pethang Ringmo (5026m / 16,490ft), the site of the traditional basecamp for routes on the Kangshung side of Everest.
Day 13: This is a day for exploration, with the option of taking a day-hike up to a viewpoint for the east face of Everest. Return to camp at Pethang Ringmo.
Day 14: We retrace our steps as far as the Rabka Chu, where we turn off our inbound trail and ascend to our camp at the lake of Shurim Tso, below the Langma La.
Day 15: Crossing the Langma La (5320m / 17,454ft) we have great views in all directions before descending to our camp at Landrubling.
Day 16: After a short hike to Kharta, we board our vehicles for the drive to the Rongbuk Valley, where we camp within sight of the north side of Everest.
Day 17: A day for rest or exploration around the Rongbuk Monastery and Everest's north side basecamp.
Day 18: A spectacular drive across the main Himalayan divide brings us to the border town of Zangmu, where we check in at a basic hotel.
Day 19: Crossing into Nepal, we continue descending to Dolaghat then climb again to Dhulikel and on to Kathmandu. Afternoon free. Overnight in the group hotel.
Day 20: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
This holiday involves going to very high altitude. During the course of your trip you will be spending at least one night above 4000 metres and/or trekking to 5000 metres or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully.
