Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You must bring the following items:
4 season sleeping bag*
Thermarest or similar sleeping mat*
Hiking boots (waterproof)
Gaiters
Trainers / sneakers for camp and on safari
Socks
Technical walking socks
Spare laces
Trekking trousers/pants
Waterproof over-trousers / rain pants
Underwear
Long johns (thermal underwear)
Thermal base layer shirts
T-shirt and/or casual shirt
Lightweight UV-proof safari shirt
Fleece jacket or warm jumper
Windproof/waterproof jacket
Warm jacket (down)
Thermal gloves
Warmer over-gloves or mittens
Sunhat
Warm hat
Eyewear - sunglasses
Daypack c.30 litres 2000 cu in
Head torch / headlamp with spare bulb and batteries
Sleeping bag liner
Trek towel
Wash bag and toiletries
Water bottles 1 Litre / 1 quart (x2)
Sun protection (including for lips)
Small padlock (to lock your KE trek bag)
Basic First Aid Kit. Including: antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, Insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite).
The following items are optional:
Nailbrush
Antibacterial hand wash
Trekking poles
Insect repellent
Camera, film, batteries
Pen-knife (remember to put all sharp objects in hold baggage
Travel clothes
Swimwear and beachwear
Beach towel
Snorkel, mask and flippers (these items can also be rented from the hotel in Zanzibar)
Notes
Items marked * can be hired / rented through KE Adventure Travel. Please make all requests at least 6 weeks prior to the trip departure date. Hire / rental equipment is issued in Tanzania.
We recommend that you do not pack your hiking boots and other essential items in hold baggage if you are transiting through Nairobi airport due to the possibility of baggage being delayed.
