The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. On this holiday there are a few days when you will need to carry your overnight baggage as well as group food supplies up to the mountain huts.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots
Trainers/sneakers/slippers to wear in the huts
Walking socks (2 or 3 pairs)
Trekking trousers / pants
Lightweight waterproof overtrousers / rain pants
Underwear
Long johns (thermal underwear)
Shorts
Thermal baselayer shirts (1 short sleeve, 1 long sleeve)
T-shirts and/or casual shirts
Fleece jacket or warm jumper
Lightweight waterproof jacket
Warm hat
Eyewear - Sunglasses
Earplugs (Especially if you are not the one snoring!)
Lightweight thermal gloves
Warmer over gloves or mittens
Rucksack/backpack 50-60 litres*
Sheet Sleeping bag, or lightweight thin sleeping bag**
Washbag and toiletries
Head torch / head lamp with spare batteries
Water bottles 1 litre / quart (x2)
Antibacterial hand wash
Wet wipes
Sun protection (including for lips)
Basic First Aid Kit including: Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, plasters (band-aids) and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite).
The following items are optional:
Gaiters
Spare laces
Small towel
Trekking poles
Camera, media, batteries
Pocket-knife (must be packed in hold baggage during flights)
Thermos flask (for hot drinks on your walks)
Notes:
*You will need to carry your personal belongings as well as a share of the food to the huts on certain days. These walks are between 1-2hrs.
** Bedding is provided at the huts, however you should bring a sheet sleeping bag. It can get to below 10ÂșC on some nights in the huts so you may wish to take a thin sleeping bag instead for the warmth.
