Sandwiched between Tibet and India, the pocket-sized and little-visited Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan is renowned amongst adventure travellers for its pristine landscapes and intact culture. This brand new tour shows it off to best effect, as we travel on the country's only road, from Paro to the timeless Phobjikha Valley. Our week in Bhutan will allow us to see many of the highlights, such as the amazing dzongs (fortress-monasteries) at Paro, Thimpu, Punakha and Wangdi. We will have the chance to do some easy hiking, to the cliff-side 'Tiger's Nest' temple of Taktsang in the Paro Valley and to Tango Monastery above Thimpu. During our day at Gantey, we will also take a stroll amongst pretty villages and have plenty of opportunity to meet the Bhutanese people. Using comfortable hotel and lodge accommodation throughout, and including a day's guided sightseeing in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu, this holiday has a great deal to offer.

This splendid Bhutanese tour includes 3 longish and 2 short drives as we travel across the country on the east-west highway. We are likely to use minibus type transport, although smaller 4WD vehicles might also be used. The amount of driving is relatively modest and Bhutan's picturesque landscapes and architecture will keep you entertained at all times. This trip includes lots of opportunities for exploration and active sightseeing, in Kathmandu, in the Paro Valley, in Thimpu, at Punakha and in the Phobjikha Valley. There are also 3 optional half-day hikes, each of which might involve up to 4 hours of walking. The walks up to Tango Monastery and to Taktsang Monastery involve a reasonable amount of ascent and descent. The optional walking elements of this trip are not sustained or strenuous and there are good paths at all times.
