Trails and Rivers of Laos

- Exploring the north of laid-back Laos
- Luang Prabangs vivid night market
- Travel by boat on the Mekong
- Amended and improved itinerary
- A fantastic adventure holiday in Laos
Rated amongst the most charming countries in SE Asia, Laos has largely managed to preserve its traditional way of life. We enter the country by crossing the Mekong River from Thailand and begin our exploration between Luang Nam Tha and Nong Kheaw, with several days of trekking into the homeland of colourful hilltribes, such as the Hmong and Khmu. Hiking through picturesque forest and farmland to isolated mountain villages, we enjoy a couple of unforgettable nights as guests of the local people. Then, after taking a boat trip to the impressive Buddhist temple at Pak Ou Caves, we cruise down the Mekong to Luang Prabang, a World Heritage site and one of the region's most attractive towns. We have time to visit the town's market and its many temples, before taking an internal flight to the strongly French-influenced capital of Vientiane, where we have a full city tour. See unspoiled Laos now!
Is this holiday for you?
This trip is a mixture of touring and sightseeing with five full days of trekking within the itinerary. We have given this trip the overall grading of ‘EASY'. Generally, the underfoot conditions during the treks and also while visiting various sights on foot, are relatively easy, following good paths throughout. It should be noted however, that it will be quite hot and humid in the tropical forest and this will have an effect on trekking performance. You will need to ensure you are physically prepared for the trekking element of the trip and you should be comfortable with walking for 4 - 7 hours in a day (with several rests) including extended uphill sections.
