Very different landscape and climate are found in the north of the island. We visit Amber Mountain National Park with its luxuriant forest, waterfalls and lakes as well as L'Ankarana National Park with its beautiful spiky rock formations called tsingy. During this week we also enjoy pleasant coastal walks. There are many different species in this area, including the Stanford lemur, stump tailed chameleons, leaf-tailed geckos and the locally endemic Amber Mountain rock thrust. Nosy Be is the prefect island location at the end of your holiday for a couple of days R&R with turquoise seas and sandy beaches.
This 7 day extension starts and ends in Antananarivo. The two nights that are spend in Nosy Be we will be staying at the 'Explora Village Hotel'. The rooms are rustic cabins set with a private terrace in pleasant tropical gardens. Around the gardens there are also various reed thatched seating areas for you to relax and enjoy the views in the shade. The hotel is next to the beach with endless views of the ocean. You are also able to book diving, snorkelling or day excursions from the hotel. Please note that the hotel on Nosy Be is the only difference between this option and the luxury version of this extension.

Itinerary
Day: 1
From Tana we transfer to the airport for the short flight to Diego Suarez. Here we meet our guide for the next few days. We transfer to Ramena where we can enjoy the beautiful beach, relax and swim in the turquoise seas before continuing onto Joffreville and checking in to our hotel. (B)
Day: 2
After breakfast a short transfer takes us to the area of the 'three bays'. Here we walk from Dunes Bay to Pigeon Bay. The walk takes us to Orangea and Ramena beach and onto the sea cliffs, with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. We enjoy a picnic lunch enroute. We also visit the lighthouse at Cap Mine. Our transfer back to the hotel takes us via a view point for Sugarloaf Mountain. (B,L).
Day: 3
Today our local guide will take us into the Amber Mountain National Park. This luxuriant forest was the first park in Madagascar and we can see tree ferns, palms, orchids amidst the waters and crater lakes. Seven different lemurs are found here, including the crowned and Stanford. We can also see chameleons, geckos and birds. Walk back to the hotel. Hotel Joffreville. (B, L).
Day: 4
Leaving Joffreville we head for the tsingy at L'Ankarana National Park. This ancient coral reef has been eroded by water and wind resulting in a limestone formation that looks like a sharp stone forest. Many interesting endemic flora and fauna species are found here. Transfer to Ankify passing through cashew, coffee, cacao and ylang-ylang planations. Overnight Ankify. (B,L).
Day: 5
After breakfast we have a short 45 min speed boat ride over the paradise island of Nosy Be. From Hellville we take a taxi to our hotel on the beach. We have the afternoon at leisure. Overnight Explora Village Hotel or similar. (B).
Day: 6
A full day at leisure on Nosy Be. It is possible to book optional activities from the hotel, including fishing, diving, snorkelling and hiring bikes. A pleasant walk is possible to Mont Passot with splendid views of the island, especially at sunset. Overnight Explora Village Hotel or similar. (B).
Day: 7
Depending on domestic flight schedules we may have a few hours in the morning to swim in the sea before flying back to Tana. International flight schedules may require you to have an extra night in Tana on this night. Otherwise we depart on our international flight home. (B).

This 7 day extension starts and ends in Antananarivo. During the two nights that are spent in Nosy Be we will be staying at the 'Vanila Hotel and Spa', situated on the beach on the north-western coast of the island with views over the ocean and the island of Nosy Sakatia (Orchid islands). All rooms have air-conditioning and have a terrace with views of the sea or the tropical gardens. The rooms have an African flavour. There is a pleasant pool as well as Spa facilities which can be taken advantage of. It is also possible to arrange diving, and rental of 4WD's, quad bikes and kayaks for exploring the area. All together it is a little piece of paradise! Please note that the upgraded hotel on Nosy Be is the only difference between this option and the standard version of this extension.
