Day 1: Meet at the group hotel in Marrakech. Complimentary airport transfers are provided for clients arriving on this day. Depending on your arrival time you may have time to explore the old souk and heart of Marrakech. KE Land Only package begins with overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: After breakfast we drive towards the distant High Atlas Mountains and one of the most unspoilt parts of the Atlas - the picturesque Valley of Bou Guemez Valley. We reach Iskataffen (1800m) in the afternoon where we'll stay overnight in a gite.
Day 3: Today, accompanied by our muleteers and trek team, we hike through the Bou Gemmaz Valley, which due to its remoteness has a feeling of Shangri La! From the Arous River gorge and Ayt Sayd we're rewarded with our first views of Ighil Mgoun (4069m). On reaching Azib Ikkis (2350m) we set up camp and prepare for our first night under canvas. Walk distance approx: 6 hrs, 625m ascent & 170m descent.
Day 4: Today sees us initially crossing the passes of Tizi n-Oumskiyk (2909m) and Tizi n-Tarkeddit (3250m) before dropping down to the Tessaout River. On reaching the Tarkeddit Refuge we set up camp at 2900m ready for the morning ascent to the summit of Mgoun. Walk distance approx: 5hrs, 940m ascent & 450m descent.
Day 5: An early start is needed for for those ascending Jebel Mgoun (4069m). The ridge to Mgoun is breath-taking and offers unforgettable trekking. The peak of Mgoun affords splendid views and some fantastic opportunities for 'summit photos!' After descending to camp there is time to rest and relax. Walk distance approx: 8 - 9hrs, ascent & descent 1385m.
Day 6: Today we hike to the western end of the plateau before climbing over Tizi N'Asdrem (3216m). Our steep descent into the Tessaout Valley takes us through incredible rocky scenery before reaching our camp at the village of Tasgarnalte (2325m). Walk distance approx: 6 - 7hrs, 400m ascent & 980m descent.
Day 7: Today is a slightly easier day of trekking on river-side trails which take us through traditional villages and the small nomadic settlements of Azib n'Ikkis and Ichbbakane. We finish our gradual descent in the village of Ait Ali Nitto and overnight in a gite. Walk distance approx: 5hrs, 570m ascent & 980m descent.
Day 8: Leaving the Tessaout Valley, we head south towards the impressively located village of Megdaz (2000m) before starting a steep climb up to Tizi Awrghiz (2450m.) After reaching the top we head downhill passing shepherd huts until we reach Tagoukht and our camp for the night at 2020m. Walk distance approx: 6hrs, 1100m ascent & 650m descent.
Day 9: Today we cross the passes of Tizi n'Fredoute (2800m) and Tizi n-Tghaghayt (2838m) to reach the spectacularly located Lake Tamda. The only permanent expanse of fresh water in the Atlast offers an unforgettable location for our camp. Walk distance approx: 4 - 6hrs, 950m ascent & 650m descent.
Day 10: An early start for those who wish to ascend Jebel Anghomar, a challenging but rewarding climb to 3608m offering superb views over the Atlas and Toubkal. After enjoying the views from the summit we descend to the village of Tighza where we overnight in a beautiful gite. Walk distance approx: 4hrs, 85m ascent & 760m descent (9hrs with the summit of Anghomar, 1035m ascent &1750m descent.
Day 11: Our day starts on trails surrounded by walnut and almond groves before climbing to a small plateau overlooking the Telouat Valley. After following a dry riverbed and reaching Telouat Village (1900m) we camp not far from the atmospheric Kasbah of the El Glaoui family. Walk distance approx: 4hrs, 320m ascent & 430m descent.
Day 12: Today after crossing the Mahboub Pass at 2400m we descend to the Tizzi n'Tichka before crossing the main Marrakech - Ouarzazate Road. The afternoon sees us setting up camp on the Afra plateau. Walk distance approx: 6hrs, 650m ascent & 500m descent.
Day 13: Today sees us trekking from the Afra valley up to the Yagour plateau. Initial trails take us through small villages which offer great views up the valley towards Bou Oughiwl and Aghoujdid. From our camp at Agdal n'Irkane (2300m) we'll see flocks of sheep being driven home by local shepherds. Walk distance approx: 8hrs, 970m ascent & 750m descent.
Day 14: : Today starts with "front row seats" as we witness the dispersal of flocks to their grazing! After traversing up to an excellent viewpoint of the High Atlas we descend into the Ourika Valley. The afternoon sees us continuing upstream to our camp at the mouth of the Agadir n'Ait Boulmane Gorge (1400m). Walk distance approx: 7 - 8hrs, 400m ascent & 1000m descent.
Day 15: Our initial trail follows a spectacular balcony path offering stunning views before hiking through three Berber villages - Tadrart, Anfi, and Tiourdiouu where we stop for lunch. Our afternoon ascent finishes at Laabassen (2300m) where we set up camp for the night. Walk distance approx: 6hrs, 600 ascent & 200m descent.
Day 16: We start the day with a long, slow climb to the pass of Tizi n-Tacheddirt (3172m). Once over we enter the Imenane Valley for an easy downhill to the village of Tacheddirt (2250m) where we set up camp. Walk distance approx: 6 - 7hrs, 1340m ascent & 980m descent.
Day 17: Our morning starts by descending down to the Umnin valley before zig-zagging up to the Tizi n-Tamatert Pass (2279m). After descending down to Ait Souka for lunch we continue ascending to our camp at Aremd in the Mizan Valley. Walk distance approx: 6hrs, 1000m ascent & 700m descent.
Day 18: Today sees us ascending to our camp near the Toubkal (Neltner) Refuge (3100m) where we have the option to ascend Ouanoukarrim (4088m). A 'hands on' approach is needed for the scrambling sections on the way to the summit, which offers great views of Toubkal opposite. Walk distance approx: 4hrs, 1100m ascent (Ouanoukarrim ascent 5-6hrs, 1000m ascent & descent).
Day 19: An early start and long day is necessary for those wanting to climb Jebel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa's highest peak via a little used route. The views and photo opportunities are breath-taking once we reach the official summit. The descent from the peaks takes us to our camp near the Neltner refuge. Walk distance approx: 6 - 7hrs, 1000m ascent & descent.
Day 20: A short day of walking takes us to the village of Ait Souka (1700m) in time for lunch. An afternoon drive and we're in the bustling city of Marrakech where after checking in the group hotel we can get together for the evening.
Day 21: A free day in Marrakech with the option to locally sightsee with a local guide exploring the UNESCO Djemaa-el-Fna marketplace. You may decide to visit one of the city gardens, enjoy some last minute shopping in the souk or just watch Moroccan life from one of the many roof top cafes.
Day 22: KE Land Only group package services end after breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully.
