Day 1: Arrive Vancouver. Rendezvous at the group hotel. Evening free. KE Land Only package services begin with the overnight stay at the group hotel.
Day 2: The morning is free to explore the city of Vancouver. In the afternoon we take the ferry across to Vancouver Island where we check in to International hostel in the heart of the old town.
Day 3: Starting the day with a drive of around 2 hours to Port Renfrew, we then hike for around 4 hours (10km) on the Juan de Fuca coastal trail. Afterwards we return to our Victoria accommodation for the evening.
Day 4: We have a walking tour of the city and some free time to explore on our own before taking the mid afternoon ferry to North Vancouver. where we check into a hotel. We have a free evening to enjoy the downtown area.
Day 5: After breakfast we drive to Squamish where we hike the first peak of Stawamus Chief (4 hour with 500 metres ascent / descent). We then continue our drive to Whistler where we stay in a hostel.
Day 6: This morning we drive drive for around 6 hours and 425 km to Clearwater. On the way we stop to hike up to the Helmcken Falls, the fourth highest waterfall in Canada (141m). Arriving in Clearwater we check into cabins at the Clearwater Valley Resort.
Day 7: We have a 1 hour drive to the trailhead in Wells Gray Provincial Park where we start our hike to Trophy Mountain Meadows, a round trip of around 5 - 6 hours with approximately 900 metres ascent and descent. After our hike we drive back to the cabins at Clearwater.
Day 8: Our next destination is Jasper. This is a drive of around 4 hours and 320 km via valemont. En route we stop to make an easy level walk of around 1.5 hours to Overlander Falls. Continuing to our destination, we check into the International Hostel in Jasper.
Day 9: After a transfer (1 hour) to the trailhead at Maligne Lake, we hike up to Bald Hills (2300m). This hike will take around 5 - 6 hours for the return trip and involves approximately 550 metres of ascent and descent. After the hike there is the option (at extra cost) to take a cruise to Spirit Island on Lake Maligne. We return to Jasper for the evening.
Day 10: A spectacular day of driving (6 - 7 hours and 240km) on the Icefields Parkway to reach Lake Louise. We will break the journey with a short (2 hour) hike, either up to Parker Ridge or on a section of the Willcox Pass trail. Arriving in Lake Louise, we check into the International Hostel.
Day 11: The first of three hikes we will make out of Lake Louise is to the Iceline Trail. We begin with a 1 hour transfer to the trailhead at Takakaw Falls from where we make a return hike of around 6 hours with approximately 725 metres of ascent and descent. Afterwards, return to our hostel in Lake Louise.
Day 12: for our second Lake Louise hike we first drive to the trailhead at Moraine Lake. From here we hike to Sentinel Pass (2611m) and back. We then return to our hostel in Lake Louise. Approximately 4 - 5 hours walking with 730 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 13: Our third and final hike is on the Big Beehive Trail which starts at the base of the famous Lake Louise Castle. We have a wonderful view on Lake Louise before returning to our vehicle and driving approximately 2 hours to Calgary where we check into our hotel and enjoy a farewell dinner . Around 4 - 5 hours walking with 560 metre ascent.
Day 14: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
Note: The above itinerary is for the first departure (MCR.1) which runs from Calgary to Vancouver. The second departure of this holiday (MCR.2) will run in reverse from Vancouver to Calgary. All the activities and accommodation are the same for both departures.
