Cape of Good Hope Hike
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots
Trainers / sneakers or sandals for evenings
Socks
Underwear
Trekking trousers / pants
Waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
Baselayer shirts (short sleeve & long sleeve)
T-shirts
Casual shirts for evenings
Fleece jacket or warm jumper Waterproof jacket
Warm hat
Lightweight thermal or fleece glovesSunhatEyewear - Sunglasses
Water bottles 1 Litre / 1 quart (x2)
Washbag and toiletries
Small towel
Antibacterial handwash
Daypack - approximately 30 litres capacity
Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)Basic First Aid Kit. Including: antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, Insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite).
The following items are optional:
Travel clothes
Trekking poles
Gaiters (useful when walking through thorny sections)Spare laces
Shorts
Wetwipes Camera, media, spare batteriesPocket-knife (note: always pack sharp objects in hold baggage)Repair kit (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)
Selection of dry bags (to keep trek bag contents dry)
