Trekking to Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro

Day 1: KE group package services begin with a transfer to the group hotel. We have a briefing and evening meal at the hotel.
Day 2: We have a scenic drive to the strat point for our first day's trek on Mount Meru, through grassland and then climbing gradually into the rainforest, to our overnight stop at the Miriakamba Hut. Optional hike to crater floor.
Day 3: Trek through forest and high grassland to the Saddle Hut (3570m), on a wide col between the slopes of Meru and Little Meru. A short walk to the summit of Little Meru is rewarding for the views.
Day 4: Early start for the walk to Mount Meru's summit (4566m), with the aim of watching sunrise over Kilimanjaro and the African plains. We enjoy the sunshine before descending to Miriakamba Hut.
Day 5: Descend to the park gate and transfer to Momella Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in the Arusha National Park. Afterwards transfer to Arusha. Overnight in hotel.
Day 6: Drive to the Machame Gate entrance into the Kilimanjaro National Park.Trek to Machame (3000m). Camp
Day 7: Trek through forest and then across the open moorland of the Shira Plateau to our camping place at the Shira Caves (3850m).
Day 8: Cross the south-west slopes of the mountain beneath the 'Lava Tower' to reach Barranco and the 'Western Breach'. The Breach Wall of Kibo rises spectacularly above our camp (3950m).
Day 9: Ascend the Great Barranco onto the southern slopes of Kibo. We pass beneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers as we head up the Karanga Valley to the Barafu Hut. Camp (4600m).
Day 10: An early start to climb to the crater rim at Stella Point. Following the crater rim we ascend to Uhuru Peak (5894m) to the highest point of all Africa. We descend to Roule Camp (2950m).
Day 11: Our final day of trekking as we walk out through the rainforest to the park gate and then drive to Arusha where there will be time to freshen up before a late afternoon transfer to the airport, where KE Land Only package services end.
This holiday involves going to very high altitude. During the course of your trip you will be spending at least one night above 4000 metres and/or trekking to 5000 metres or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully.
