West of Chengdu and Minya Konka, the Tibetan Plateau, known as the Roof of the World, presents a starkly beautiful landscape characterised by rolling brown and orange hills and turquoise lakes and tarns, all with a backdrop of the distant snow-covered Himalayas. The spiritual heart and capital of the region is Lhasa, which for centuries was a `forbidden city` and the home of the Dalai Lama. Today, the city is an amazing cultural hybrid of the ancient and modern, its streets bustling with a diverse mix of ethnic groups.
Lhasa and Yamdrok Lake
This short sightseeing extension to the magical city of Lhasa, the former home of the Dalai Lama is the perfect counterpoint to the trek to Mount Minya Konka. After a sensational flight west along the chain of the Himalaya, you will be met on arrival at Lhasa airport and transferred to your comfortable hotel for a 3 night stay in the city. With an English-speaking local guide you will visit the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, the Luobu Linkar (Summer Palce) and the Sera monastery. You will also drive to the Gangbala Pass (5200m) for a sensational view over Yamdrok lake, before returning to the airport to catch the flight back to Chengdu

You will be collected from your hotel and transfererd to the airport for the flight to Lhasa. Arriving in Lhasa you will be met by your guide who will arrange the transfer to the hotel. After checking in, the tour begins with an easy walk to the Luobu Linkar, the former Summer palace of the Dalai Lama where you have time to look around the exyensive gardens and rooms. Overnight at the hotel.
This morning you will have a guided tour of the Potala Palace, the symbol of Tibet. In the afternoon you will visit the Jokhang temple and take a walking tour through the fascinating old streets of the Barkhor which surround the temple. Overnight at our hotel in Lhasa.
This morning you will drive out of the city to the 300-meter long Qushui Bridge. You then continue to the Gangbala Pass (5200m), where you will enjoy a superb view over Yamdrok lake, one of the four most sacred lakes in Tibet. You return to Lhasa in the afternoon and visit Sera Monastery to witness the ancient ritual of 'debating'. You spend a final night in the hotel in Lhasa.
The morning is free for independent sightseeing or souvenir shopping. In the late morning or early afternoon you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport for the return flight to Chengdu. In Chengdu you will be met by a KE representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. Overnight in Chengdu.
After breakfast at the hotel you have a transfer to the airport where KE extension package services end.
