Monasteries and Mountains of Montenegro

Day 1: The group will rendezvous at Dubrovnik Airport. From here we drive across the border into Montenegro and for approximately 2 hours up into the hills to Ostrog Monastery built partly using natural caves in a cliff face. Tonight's accommodation is simple and atmospheric staying in the monastery's guest house.
Day 2: We have a relaxing day today, starting with a morning visit around the famous Ostrog Monastery. After lunch we transfer to Zabljak-Durmitor (approx 3 hrs) where we check into the hotel.
Day 3: Durmitor Plateau Lakes Walk - walking from Zabljak to the Black Lake takes us through pristine pine forest before continuing uphill and on to the plateau and Serpent Lake where we enjoy a picnic lunch. We return to Zabljak via the scenic third lake, Barno. 5 hours walking, with approx 100m of ascent and descent. Overnight in our hotel in Zabljak
Day 4: The Bear Summit Circuit - Our path this morning follows the shores of the Black Lake before turning towards the mountains. We soon leave the pine forest behind as the terrain becomes more alpine with peaks and snow patchs. We reach the Previja pass (2,145m) before descending back to Black Lake via Lokvice and Zabljak. Approx 6 hrs walking.
Day 5: This morning we cross over the Djurdjevica Tara bridge and visit the 13th century Moraca Monastery. We then start our walking through the spectacular Mrtvica Canyon. In this hidden canyon we find the 'Gates of Wishes'. In the afternoon we transfer to Kotor Fjord and our hotel.
Day 6: This morning we have a city tour around Kotor. We start we a 2 hour walk on the city ramparts and walls. From Ivan's Tower we have magnificent views over the town and the fjord. After lunch we have the afternoon free to enjoy the town. We can take a boat ride along Kotor Fjord stopping at some of the small islands. Or we could just relax in the town and drink coffee.
Day 7: Our walk today starts from Kotor and takes us over the mountain called Vrmac situated between the towns of Kotor and Tivat. Once on the ridge we have panoramic views of the fjords adn towns. After our picnic lunch admiring the views we descend to Markov beach between Stoliv and Prcanj where we relax and have a swim. We return to Prcanj next to the sea for our final night in Montenegro.
Day 8: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast with a single timed group transfer to Dubrovnik airport.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
