All meals outside of Mexico city are included in the trip price. Where there is a wide range of dining options and budgets, it makes sense to leave this choice to you. We have therefore not included meals other than breakfasts while staying in Mexico City. Clients will be expected to pay directly for 2 lunches and 2 dinners and you should allow approximately US$7 - 20 per meal.
The group will have 2 nights in hotel accommodation in Mexico City, where we will use a minimum 3-star standard hotel. The rooms here are twin share with en-suite facilities.
We have 4 nights in a comfortable hacienda below La Malinche. The food here is all cooked from locally grown ingredients and in a traditional style (it's delicious!). The rooms are either dormitory style or twin, and are refurbished in a traditional simple style. This accommodation is a favourite because of it's homeliness.
We have 2 nights at a climbers hostel at Tlachichuca. This is mixed female/male dormitory accommodation with the bathroom and shower house is a separate building outside.
There are 2 nights, on day 3 and day 10, when we camp at a high camp. On these nights we have to carry all of our provisions for the nights camping. This means carrying all food, water, cooking equipment, tents, sleeping bags/mats and your climbing equipment (crampons, ice-axes etc). The usual routine is to ascent with our gear to high camp, overnight camp, then the following morning rise early for our summit attempt, then walk back down picking up our overnight gear before descending again to the road head.
There is 1 night (day 6) when we overnight in a mountain hut and we have to carry all our provisions as per camping except for the tents. We then have 3 nights at mountains huts which at the roadhead so we do not need to carry our equipment. All mountain huts are basic with mixed female/male dormitory's and no electricity or showers.
All camping areas are also 'wild' high camps and do not have any electricity or facilities. The tents are 3-man sharing mountain tents, so 3 people per tent. As we are carrying our equipment single tents are not available.
If you are travelling by yourself you will be paired up with another single client of the same sex for the hotel nights. Depending on availability, it may be possible to pre-book single room occupancy for the 2 nights in Mexico City. For single supplement costs please refer to the dates and prices page of the trip on our website.
