Day 3: We continue our exploration of the Kathmandu Valley as we drive out of the capital to visit the neighbouring medeival city of Bhaktapur, a fascinating treasure trove of Newari art and architecture. In the late afternoon we drive up into the hills above the city where we stay overnight at a hotel in the hill resort of Nargarkot.
Day 4: Before dawn we are roused from sleep to witness the incredible sight of the sun coming up over the Himalaya. Nargarkot is perched on the Kathmandu Valley rim and offers a magnificent panorama of the Himalayan chain from Annapurna in the west though Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga in the east. After breakfast we drive south through the foothills to Chitwan National Park where we stay in a hotel.
Day 5: A full day of jungle activities in Chitwan which will include going out with local wildlife guides on foot, by boat and on elephant back. At the end of the day we return to our hotel just outside the park.
Day 6: Early in the morning we will go out for the final time with our wildlife guide to observe the birds and animals at the watering hole. In the late morning we drive back into the foothills of the Himalaya, this time heading west to reach the charming town of 'Lakeside' on Phewa Tal (lake) close to Nepal's second city of Pokhara where we check into our hotel.
Day 7: A day of sightseeing in Pokhara. In the morning we will enjoy a pleasant walk along a ridge top to the 'Peace Pagoda' where we have stunning views over the lake and to the Annapurnas. In the afternoon we visit the International Mountain Museum. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 8: Another pre dawn start today as we make the short drive to Sarankot above Pokhara to watch the sunrise on the Himalaya. Like Nargarkot this is a superb spot to see the main chain of the Himalaya, here from a new western perspective. We then visit the Tibetan Refugee Centre and the afternoon is free to enjoy the town's many art and craft shops or to take a boat out on the lake.
Day 9: Leaving Pokhara we drive east again to the Marsyangdi Valley and here follow a road which winds up into the Mahabharat Hills. High above the river on a ridge we reach the traditional village of Bandipur. Here we check into the nearby Mountain Resort Lodge which has stunning views of Annapurna, Manaslu and the Langtang peaks and we can take a stroll to the picturesque village.
Day 10: Leaving Bandipur we wind our way down from the hills to rejoin the main Pokhara to Kathmandu highway where we turn east once again. We stop at the village of Kurintar and take Nepal's only cable car up to the temple of Manakamana on a hilltop above the Trisuli River. We then continue our journey back to Kathmandu where we check into the group hotel and have celebratory dinner.
Day 11: A free day in Kathmandu for independent sightseeing, souvenir shopping or optional activities. Options today include taking the early morning mountain flight to see the Himalaya from the air. It is also possible to hire bicycles or mountain bikes. At the end of the day the group will come together for a final dinner at a traditional restaurant. Overnight at the group hotel.
