Day 2: In the morning we have a guided walking tour of this lovely old colonial city. In the afternoon we transfer by horse carriage to the harbour for a cruise around the Isletas de Granada on Lake Nicaragua. Overnight at the group hotel.
Day 3: Today we drive to Volcan Masaya N.P. and continue up the active volcano Santiago to view the smoke & lava. We also hike up the quieter San Fernando Volcano to see the lava tubes. Later return to Granada.
Day 4: We drive to 1150m on Volcan Mombacho and then make a circular hike for 3 hours with fantastic views over the lake. We then drive via Laguna de Apoyo to Leon Viejo where we start our hike (1-2 hours) to our camp at the Laguna "El Tigre". Time for a swim before settling down to an evening in camp.
Day 5: After a short transfer up to 320m, we begin the ascent of Momotombo, anyone wanting to sit out the final ascent up the ash slope to the crater can relax and enjoy the views over Lake Managua. Reaching the crater (1297m) after around 4 hours of hiking. We return by the same route and transfer back to Laguna El Tigre. Approximately 7 hours of walking. Overnight camp.
Day 6: We transfer to Las Pilas-El Hoyo where we climb the volcano (1088m) and visit the mysterious hole in the hillside of El-Hoyo. We then make an ascent of Cerro Negro, Central America's youngest volcano, for sensational views over the highlands and the Pacific. We then have the option of a fun scree run through the ash straight to our campsite at the foot of the volcano. Overnight camp.
Day 7: Today's trek takes us around Rota volcano and down to the road where we meet our vehicle and drive to San Jacinto. Near the village are several boiling 'mud holes' probably connected to Volcan Telica. We will set up camp in the village and this evening we learn from locals how to make tortillas.
Day 8: We hike around Santa Clara Volcano to Telica, Nicaragua's most active volcano. Depending on conditions we will make an ascent to the summit (1090m) where we can view the steaming crater. In the afternoon we go down to a camp at Casitas. 6 - 8 hours walking.
Day 9: Our trek today takes us around Volcano Casita to reach the foot of Nicaragua's highest peak, Volcano San Cristobal (1745m). Camp. 6 hours walking.
Day 10: Starting by trekking on woodland trails we make the challenging ascent of San Cristobal, another highly active volcano and Nicaragua's highest peak at 1745m. The ascent is quite challenging on steep slopes of loose ash slopes but the sensational views over the smoking crater are well worth the effort. We descend by a different route to our final camp at Finca Las Rojas.
Day 11: From our camp we have a hike of approximately 1 hour to the road where we meet our vehicles for the drive to Marina Puesta del Sol where we check into our hotel and then relax at the beach.
