I did the Dana to Petra trek last year and I really enjoyed that trip and I wanted to do something different again.
I loved the contrast of the scenery, the spectacular views from Jebel Shams and Jebel Akhdar, exploring small villages and seeing how the falaj worked and the variety of plants and crops that grew. I loved the peace and quiet of camping. I enjoyed the camp fires, looking at the stars. It was wonderful going to the Wahiba sands. I'd have liked to have spent a bit more time in the desert. I enjoyed meeting the Omani and the Bedouin people. I think everyone we met was very hospitable. I enjoyed the visits to the mosque in Muscat and the fort in Nizwa. The museum at the fort was excellent. I enjoyed Nizwa souk. It wa s very interesting watching the goat and cattle auction. I particularly enjoyed the swim we had in the rock pools at Wadi Shab near the end of the trip and swimming into the cave. Not often you can do something like that!

Kamal (our guide) was wonderful. I sprained my ankle on the trek and he took great care of me, making sure I was able to continue and didn't miss anything on this trip.
All of it. I've always been an independent traveller and am wary of group tours. However, this really was more of an adventure, not a tour.
It exceeded expectations!

The temperature at nights when camping at altitude was low, so I would advise taking extra layers such as thermals. I was cold during the night despite wearing several layers of clothing inside a 4 seasons sleeping bag.
The food on the trip was excellent thanks to Wafa. The dinners she cooked were delicious (her dhal and bolognaise sauces were the best I have ever tasted and I am a keen cook). She also ensured that we tasted the local delicacies, such as a variety of Arabian cakes for afternoon tea, and from her choice of restaurants for lunch and dinner.
I had been apprehensive about visiting a Muslim country but felt safe and welcome everywhere.
