Day 1: Arrive in Ushuaia. KE Land Only package services begin with the overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: A free day in Ushuaia. We have an opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the worlds most southerly city. This is also a contingency day in case of any delays to your international flights. Overnight at the group hotel.
Day 3: This morning you have time for some last minute shopping, relaxing or taking an optional excursion in the area. We embark the M/S Expedition in the afternoon. We enjoy our first sailing this evening through the Beagle Channel.
Day 4: Drake Passage. Our adventure begins with a two day sailing crossing the 400-mile the Drake Passage, named after the 16th century English explorer Sir Francis Drake. We have time to familiarise ourselves with the ship and its common areas including the lounge, dining hall, library and presentation room. We will start our daily lectures and get to know the guides and crew.
Day 5: Drake Passage. Still crossing the Drake Passage we look out for our first sightings of icebergs, whales and albatross which follow in the ship's wake.
Day 6: Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. Our first chance to step on this remarkable 'Great White Continent'. Over the next four days we navigate southwards from the South Sheltand Islands, through the Bransfield Strait and to the Antarctic Peninsula. We will attempt to make two excursions per day and our exact routing remains flexible depending on the weather and the ice conditions.
Day 7: Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. The area is abound with wildlife activity. Penguins gather with their fast-growing chicks, whales are seen in great numbers, seals haul out onto ice floes and beaches, and numerous albatross and other seabirds trail in our wake.
Day 8: Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. The Peninsula also has a remarkable history and, during the voyage, we will learn about some of the most important and dramatic expeditions to this remote corner of the world. Keeping a lookout from the Bridge or the deck of the ship, as we thread our way along the continent, you'll feel the same sense of excitement as many of those early explorers.
Day 9: Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. We have a further day sailing along the coast, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the sheer beauty and the breathtaking scenery of ice-choked waterways, blue and white icebergs, impressive glaciers and rugged snow-capped mountains, as well as the wildlife.
Day 10: Drake Passage We finally return in a northerly direction crossing back over the Drake Passage. We can enjoying some final lectures by our expedition staff and catch some final glimpses of the birds and whales in this extraordinary part of the world.
Day 11: Drake Passage Our final day onboard, we can reflect on our adventure and relax as we return into Ushuaia.
Day 12: We disembark the M/S Expedition in Ushuaia in the morning. KE Land Only services end with a transfer to the airport.
